91% of all abortions performed in the US are at 13 weeks or earlier. Even though abortion may be legal up to 24 weeks in a certain state, that doesn't mean it's easy to get one that late. Generally there is a medical issue with the fetus, or the mother, or perhaps the mother is an underage girl who was raped and didn't understand she was pregnant.
People seem to think that if abortion is left open without restrictions, patients will opt for later abortions out of "convenience" but the opposite is true--when there aren't barriers to abortion, people abort as early as possible. Restrictions create barriers which push abortions later and later.
