American Exceptionalism Includes Telling the Truth About Our History
If we can’t tell our own kids the truth then we’re not great
It has been both horrifying and fascinating to listen to conservative America continue to defend this country’s whitewashing of our history in public schools, and their insistence it must continue for the good of the country. The right’s recent attacks on teaching accurate US history in public school classrooms is hysterical in every sense of the word. Honestly, it’s become so overtly paranoid and nonsensical all I can do is laugh.
“They’re teaching little white kids to hate themselves!”
“Racial indoctrination!”
“Communism!”
“Blerg, blerg, blerg Obama! Critical Race Theory!”
Honestly, they all sound as if their underwear is on fire. It’s bonkers.
If the US is really the land of the free, the land of democracy, then let’s do that shit. Let’s walk the walk already. I get so tired of listening to conservatives justify this country’s mass murder of indigenous Americans and mass enslavement of Black Americans with the tired argument, “But everybody used to do it.”
Well, are we like everybody? Or are we better than that? Are we or are we not a country built…
