Conservatives Need to Remember: Limiting Rights Can Go Both Ways

When you take it upon yourself to take other’s rights away, you’re putting your own rights in danger

It seems as though today’s American conservatives are in a panic. They can see they’re losing supporters, so they’re going for a last, desperate attempt to push their wildly unpopular views and laws on a society that doesn’t want them.

There are plenty of conservative views many of us find repugnant — yet we don’t try to outlaw those views — but what if we did? What if we went after conservative rights the way they come after everyone else’s?

For instance, many forced-birth conservatives would require pregnant, underage children — their own daughters— to give birth, even if they were raped, and even if childbirth would endanger their lives. They claim this is “religious freedom” to enforce their will on someone else’s body. Most of us see it as a gross human rights violation.

If it were up to me, any girl aged 16 or under would be encouraged to abort and focus on her education and her own life, because I don’t think a 16 year old can make an informed decision about parenthood.
