Don’t Lose Your Joy
Because then you lose everything
It’s hard to not be angry right now. In fact, it’s difficult to avoid most of the negative end of the emotionally spectrum at this point in history — depression, sadness, disappointment, despair and fear. I can vividly recall times as an American I had much more hope for our nation’s future, though in retrospect, that thinking was incredibly short-sighted and naive.
It doesn’t help if you’re someone who tends to be moody anyway — all of us who live with depression, anxiety, anger issues, PTSD, Borderline Personality Disorder or Bipolar Disorder, and also all of us artsy-fartsy types who are prone to high highs and low lows — we are even more affected by the political and social shenanigans happening right now, which is why people are being generally awful to each other. Everyone is on edge and nobody is happy with the way things are going, no matter what your politics.
Yesterday, I unplugged from all my devices and went to graduation parties, because my friends are all of the age that our kids are graduating, so that’s our reality for the next few years. After two years of hiding out at home and missed graduations and cancelled graduation parties, we came together to celebrate the launch of another human generation out into the world. We all marveled at our beautiful kids who are suddenly all grown up…
