Elon Musk Buying Twitter Isn’t About Free Speech AT ALL
It’s about a rich man buying the right to spew propaganda & hate speech
Ugh. I have said MANY TIMES BEFORE and WILL SAY AGAIN that I love Free Speech. But goddamn. Let’s be very clear here: Elon Musk purchasing Twitter is NOT about free speech. It’s about him purchasing the right to freely use hate speech, which is NOT covered by the Constitution of the United States, nor most constitutions. This is about an obnoxiously rich guy purchasing a safe space for his bullshit propaganda. Elon Musk has received at least $4.9 billion from the US government. He has a vested fucking interest in purchasing a media outlet with millions of followers to influence their opinions.
The disgusting thing is people who support trump see this as a win for free speech. It’s not. It’s a win for hate speech.
Love it or hate it, the US government understands it has the power, and the obligation, to combat hate speech, as evidenced by PSAs created by the US government during WWII, and anti-drug PSAs from the 1980s.
