Getting High & Exploring the College Library
It’s an adventure!
When I was in college oh-so-many years ago, and my friends and I needed to unwind, blow off steam and decompress from school and work, one of our favorite things to do was get high and explore our cavernous campus library that has miles of book stacks going down deep into the earth. On our adventures, our drug of choice was always weed, though ’shrooms would’ve been a hoot, too. (I guess since it was the early Nineties, we would’ve “totally dug it” if we’d had shrooms at the time, but they were often hard to come by.)
There was something so exhilarating and verboten about being young and cute and high in public, but also feeling as though we were in a safe space where no one was going to bother us unless we became unruly. And frankly, a good library is as fun to explore as a cave, in my opinion. You just never really know what treasures you’re going to find.
We found official field transcripts from US soldiers in WWII; old newspapers going back to before the Civil War with horrifying ads for slave auctions; books written in every language you can think of; books with exotic illustrations from around the word and times gone by.
