It's fascinating you brought up the Doctrine of Discovery. I went most of my life never hearing about it until 2018. One of our middle schools in town was renamed for Native American Olympic gold medalist Billy Mills and he attended the ceremony. He gave an incredible talk about Native rights and he specifically mentioned the Doctrine of Discovery, which declared Native Americans had no souls, therefore justifying their slaughter.
