Let’s Be Clear: Texas Didn’t Outlaw Abortion, They Outsourced It
And the “prolifers” have now ensured hundreds, if not thousands of later abortions
Now that Texas’s new unconstitutional abortion law has been in effect for a few months, we know a few things — Texans needing abortion care haven’t stopped getting abortions. They’re just leaving Texas and traveling to Oklahoma, Missouri, Arkansas and Kansas. Know how I know? Because I volunteer for the Kansas Abortion Fund and the clinics here are telling us they’re absolutely overrun — and I mean overrun — with Texas patients. The funds and clinics in Oklahoma, Missouri and Arkansas are reporting the same, and the data bears this out. Abortion care providers in Kansas saw a 9% increase in patients in 2020 compared with 2019, and 52% of their patients were from out-of-state.
Because of the types of laws “prolifers” like to pass, many people end up not being able to terminate until they’re 19, 20 or more weeks along. Some people end up forced to terminate early in the second trimester at 24 weeks.
