Mail Order Bride Services Are Human Trafficking

And Medium should stop letting mail order bride services blog here

I love writing on Medium, but incredibly disappointed they’re allowing mail order bride services to blog here. Over the years, I’ve seen lots of other writers write posts criticizing Medium, but I never thought I’d be one.

While mail order bride services are currently still legal, I don’t think they will be in ten years. Why? Because mail order bride services are human trafficking. Period.

Mail order bride services — or more euphemistically, international marriage brokers — “match” almost exclusively, poor, desperate women from overseas, or over the border, with American men willing to essentially purchase a woman who is then indebted to him. After all, he’s the one who’s going to spend the thousands of dollars to get her paperwork in order and move her to be with him.

Worse, she’ll then be in a new country where she may not speak the language very well. She’ll be completely isolated with her new husband while her family is hundreds or thousands of miles away. Often, her new husband has possession of all her identification and paperwork and he may not feel inclined to give it back. She’ll have nowhere to go and no one to turn to if she suddenly finds herself in an abusive…
