About the new Texas Abortion Law
I make so secret of the fact I’m on the board of the Kansas Abortion Fund. If you don’t know what abortion funds are, we raise donations from the public so that people in our states who are in need of abortion care, but short on cash, are not blocked from getting the care they need. Abortion is a time-sensitive treatment, and since many states block federal funds, state funds, and even private insurance from paying for abortions, private citizens have opted to help out those folks who can’t be pregnant, for whatever reason. Abortion funds don’t judge. We don’t care why you need the abortion, we just want you to be able to access the care.
Last weekend, the Kansas Abortion Fund was asked to attend several Women’s Marches across the state. We were able to have tables in Topeka, Kansas City and Lawrence, but you may be surprised to learn Kansas also had Women’s Marches on Oct. 2 in Manhattan, Hays, Salina and Pittsburg. (For those of you who aren’t familiar, some of those cities are smaller, and deep in political red country.)
I was privileged enough to attend the Women’s March in Lawrence, and this rally felt different than other ones I’ve been to the last five years.
