The Republican Party is like an Abusive Partner

And Dems are the abused partner who smooths things over

In the days after the illegitimate Supreme Court struck down Roe V Wade, I was gobsmacked at the number of conservatives who asked, out loud, “Why didn’t Dems codify Roe?”

While some of them celebrated the fall of Roe, a good portion wanted to know — honestly wanted to know — why Dems hadn’t done more to keep it in place. Because the fact of the matter is a fair number of conservatives know full well their party has gone too far, and they cannot figure out why liberals didn’t take them seriously about their threats to take away Constitutional rights.

You know what that sounds like? It sounds exactly like: “Why did you make me hit you?”

It’s fucked up.

Here in very red Kansas, when we were faced with voting on abortion for ourselves, the vote was to keep it legal. The largest block of registered voters in Kansas are Republicans, followed by independents, and dead last, Democrats. But plenty of registered Republicans voted to keep abortion legal, because A) they understand the dangers of making it illegal and B) they’ve had an abortion or they’ve had a partner who needed an abortion, even though they won’t admit it out loud or do the work to keep it legal.
