The Rise of the Real-Life Supervillain

Elon Musk is now banning the Twitter accounts of journalists who criticize him. While this might not sound like such a big deal, these days, being a journalist requires having a Twitter account. It’s part of the job.

Despite his tweet above, the journalists in question were neither doxing Elon’s real-time location or endangering his family, and he has yet to provide any proof that any journalist did so.

At first Musk was shutting down the accounts of journalists whose job it is to cover Musk — like Musk was literally part of their beat, and he just shut them down, without warning. When other journalists began criticizing this move, Elon started banning them as well — we’re talking about national journalists working for large news outlets like CNN, the Washington Post, and the New York Times.

There was a Twitter account Tweeting out the location of Elon’s jet, and Elon shut that account down, despite claiming he’d be a champion of free speech. There is certainly an argument to be made that this might be considered doxing, but it’s still a fact that the data of the location of Elon’s jet is public record.
