This is How Little Crisis Pregnancy Centers Do
It’s shocking, really
Tennessee governor Bill Lee, in a political attempt to tamp down anger against the abortion ban in his state, recently proposed funding Crisis Pregnancy Centers in his state to the tune of $100 million, with taxpayer money.
Just last year, the Associated Press reported total taxpayer funding going to crisis pregnancy centers all over the nation amounted to $89 million, so Governor Lee’s announcement is big. It was met with applause and kudos, because it’s good to offer assistance to someone who wants to keep their pregnancy, right? Except Crisis Pregnancy Centers don’t do that.
I Googled “crisis pregnancy centers tennessee” and the first one that came up is the Cumberland Crisis Pregnancy Center in Nashville. These are the “free services” they provide:
Pregnancy tests
Pregnancy Counseling
Abortion education
Adoption education/referrals
STD/STI information
Medical referrals
Housing referrals
Education assistance referrals
Legal referrals
prenatal classes
parenting classes
Baby layettes and supplies (A layette is a basic set of soft newborn supplies that typically includes onesies, pants, a hat and some spit-up cloths. The site doesn’t specify other “supplies.”)
