Can we all just calm the fuck down for a minute and have a rational conversation about trans people?

First of all, trans people have always existed, in every culture, since the beginning of time. I get some people out there don’t want to believe that, but it’s fact.

For those of us who are old enough, think back to the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s.

During those decades when you met someone whose gender you weren’t able to discern, or you accidentally referred to someone as the wrong gender, what did you do? Freak out? Scream at them? Of course not. What we used to do was apologize and move on. We didn’t try to pass laws to keep those people from existing. We didn’t insist they show us their genitals to “prove” they were one thing or another, and we weren’t concerned they were going to influence our kids somehow. We accepted that some women looked mannish and some men looked feminine, and some of those folks were probably trans, but we didn’t know for sure, and we all went…
