We May Have Reached Peak Stupidity

And are now tumbling off the cliff

It’s my firm belief that people never really change. Humans were never nicer or more moral in the past. There are still the same percentage of selfish, evil, and willfully dumb folks today as there always have been.

The issue today, is that thanks to the internet and global social media, willful stupidity can now be organized and weaponized more easily than ever before. (My definition of “stupidity” includes the willfully ignorant, science deniers, selfish greed-hounds and bigots of all kinds, but that’s just me.)

I’m banned from Facebook again because I told an antivaxxer she and her ilk are “sure proud of their stupidity.” I knew I’d be banned as soon as I said it and I thought about deleting it, but then I let it stand. Within minutes I’d received the notice I was once again in Facebook jail. It’s apparently more important to not hurt the feelings of stupid people than it is to tell the truth. That’s where we are, and we can see it in everything from the response to the pandemic to an attempted insurrection to climate change.

It hurts me to my core that experts, the educated and the inclusive may lose the war on stupid, and at this point, I’m just trying to steel myself for what may very well be the inevitable end of US society. We recently watched…
