Why Is the Forced-Birth Movement So Unnecessarily Cruel?
And full of lies?
For years, progressives in the US have been fighting for affordable healthcare, and safety nets for the poor. And for years, conservatives have fought those measures tooth and nail, citing “freedom” and “fiscal responsibility.”
Of course there’s one freedom conservatives can’t abide and that’s abortion — because, they claim, they “love babies.” But being pregnant and having a baby is incredibly expensive, and often women’s earning potential falls after she’s had a child. In fact, the number one reason people cite for having an abortion is economic. Poor women in the US often have trouble even coming up with the $600-$1,000 to end their first-trimester pregnancy, let alone pay for the birth and care of a baby.
But now that conservatives have succeeded in trashing Roe V Wade, they still won’t even discuss issues such as raising the minimum wage, or paid maternity leave, or free, accessible birth control. So far, the only “solutions” conservatives offer for the people they’ve denied abortion are so-called Crisis Pregnancy Centers and Baby Drop Boxes.
Conservatives are eager to point to Crisis Pregnancy Centers in particular as proof of their sincerity in wanting to assist poor women, and many are proud to say they donate. CPCs are proliferating…
